Steve Paul Jobs passed away yesterday and the world lost one of those rare human beings who was both a revolutionary technologist and a marketing genius. The mass outpouring of grief on a global basis is a clear indicator of how much Jobs and the products he willed into reality have changed our lives. Even for those who were firmly in the PC camp, I am sure their life was enriched by the movies made by his company, Pixar, such as Toy Story, Cars, WallE,....

As I was sipping my morning cup of home-brewed filter coffee, came across this wonderful article in NYT about a robotic machine that dismantles and recycles an old refrigerator in about 60 seconds. More importantly, it pretty much recovers and recylces almost all of the CFC coolant in the compressor and foam insulation safely. One repeatedly hears that utilities are spending a lot of time and money on educating the customer on what they are doing. This is especially true as for as initiatives like Smart Grid, DSM, time-of-use or real-time pricing, etc are concerned. IBM recently released the results of a global survey of 10,000 consumers in 17 countries in which they asked them about their knowledge of these utility programs.
